Sanitary Pneumatic Ball Valve: 3-Piece 316, Tri-Clamp or Butt Weld

This sanitary pneumatic ball valve is the V-3NM high-mount three-piece valve with a rack-and-pinion air actuator on top — double-acting (DA) or spring-return (SR), running on a 4–8 bar air supply. The valve body and ball are cast 316 stainless steel (ASTM A351 CF8M), full port, rated 1000 WOG, with a PTFE seat in fully or semi encapsulated form. 316 is the stock material and 304 (CF8) is made on request.

Two end styles cover both ways a hygienic line is built: Tri-Clamp ferrules on the V-3NM, or extended OD-tube butt-weld ends on the V-3NM-L3. ISO 5211 High-Platform Pad: Actuator Bolts Straight On

The mounting pad is cast into the valve body as a raised platform and drilled to ISO 5211, F03 to F10 depending on size. The actuator bolts directly to it, so there is no bracket to fabricate and no coupling to machine, and the raised platform keeps the actuator clear of the valve body and of the line itself. The top of the actuator carries the standard pads for a solenoid valve, a limit switch box or a positioner.

Tri-Clamp or Butt Weld?

Cavity Filled Ball Valve Seat: Fully or Semi Encapsulated PTFE

The PTFE seat wraps around the ball and fills the body cavity where product could otherwise collect. The fully encapsulated (cavity filled) seat fills the most cavity and is rated −20 to +80 °C; the semi encapsulated seat is rated −20 to +180 °C. Three-Piece Body: Service Without Cutting the Line

The body unbolts into three pieces in place. The bore can be inspected, the internals cleaned and the seats replaced without cutting the valve out of the run and without lifting the actuator off its pad — which matters on a line where the valve is one of many in a sequence.

• Automated cleaning cycles on food and beverage lines: The cleaning program drives the valves open and closed on its own schedule, which keeps operators away from hot caustic and steam instead of walking the line turning handles.
• Brewery and beverage transfer sequencing: Where a PLC runs transfer, filling and rinse steps as a sequence, several valves have to move in a defined order with interlocks so two paths never open at once.
• Batch changeover lines: Plants that switch product, flavour or recipe on the same line cycle their valves many times a day. Double-acting actuators have no springs to fatigue, so they suit that duty.
• Lines tied into PLC or HMI control: Once a line is monitored centrally, each valve needs a solenoid to take the signal and a limit switch box to report its position. Both bolt to the standard pads on this actuator.

What is a sanitary pneumatic ball valve?

A hygienic ball valve with an air actuator on top instead of a hand lever. The body is 316 stainless steel with a smooth full-port bore and no threads for product to lodge in; the rack-and-pinion actuator opens and closes it from a control signal. Pneumatic control sanitary ball valve, sanitary pneumatic valve and hygienic actuated ball valve all describe the same thing.

Double-acting or spring-return — which should I choose?

Double-acting (DA) uses air for both strokes and stays in its last position if air is lost. Spring-return (SR) uses springs for the return stroke, so on air loss the springs move the valve to its preset open or closed position. Which position is the safe one depends on your process, so specify it when you order.

Why a pneumatic actuator rather than an electric one?

A pneumatic actuator has no internal electronics, so it is not exposed to the short-circuit risk that moisture ingress creates for electric units — which matters in a washdown area. It also takes its drive straight from the plant air supply, at 4–8 bar on this actuator.

What does the high-mount ISO 5211 pad do?

It is a raised mounting platform cast into the valve, drilled to ISO 5211 (F03–F10 by size). The actuator bolts straight on — no bracket or custom coupling — and the raised platform keeps the actuator clear of the valve body.

Tri-Clamp or butt weld — which ends should I choose?

Tri-Clamp (V-3NM) if the line is taken apart and cleaned often — the clamp opens without tools. Extended butt weld (V-3NM-L3) for permanently welded runs — the long ends keep welding heat away from the seals.

What is the temperature rating?

It depends on the seat: −20 to +180 °C with the semi encapsulated PTFE seat, −20 to +80 °C with the fully encapsulated seat. The actuator is rated −20 to +80 °C. Pressure rating is 1000 WOG.

Is 304 stainless available?

316 (CF8M) is the stock material. 304 (CF8) is made on request — state it on the enquiry.
