Tri Clamp Ball Valve for Sanitary Lines: Manual, 3-Piece, 316

This tri clamp ball valve is a manual three-piece sanitary valve cast in 316 stainless steel (ASTM A351 CF8M), full port, rated 1000 WOG. A quarter turn of the lever opens a smooth bore matched to the tube inner diameter, so product flows through without a step or a pocket. Buyers also call this style a tri clover ball valve or a hygienic ball valve; the clamp ferrule ends are the same.

Two end styles cover both ways hygienic lines are built: Tri-Clamp ferrules (V-3N) for quick, tool-free assembly, and extended OD-tube butt-weld ends (V-3N-L3) for permanently welded runs. The three-piece body unbolts in place, so seats and ball can be inspected, cleaned or replaced without cutting the valve out of the line. Sizes 1/2″ to 4″ in both versions. 316 is stocked; 304 (CF8) is available on request.

Tri-Clamp or Butt Weld?

Tri-Clamp (V-3N) Extended Butt Weld (V-3N-L3)
Joint Clamp ferrule — tool-free to install, open and inspect Welded OD-tube ends (sanitary tube O.D.) — a permanent, smooth-bore joint
Best for Lines that are opened and cleaned often Permanently welded runs; the extended ends keep welding heat away from the seals

Both are available across the full 1/2″–4″ range, and you can mix them on one order.

Cavity Filled Ball Valve Seat: Fully or Semi Encapsulated PTFE

Instead of a plain seat ring, the PTFE seat wraps further around the ball and fills the body cavity where product could otherwise collect. Two designs are available, and the actual parts are photographed below. The fully encapsulated (cavity filled) seat covers the most cavity and is rated −20 to +80 °C; the semi encapsulated seat leaves a smaller filled zone and is rated −20 to +180 °C. Three-Piece Body: Service Without Cutting the Line

The two end caps stay clamped or welded in the line while the centre section, ball and seats come out on four bolts. That is what makes a three-piece design practical for lines that are opened and inspected on a schedule: seat replacement is a bench job, not a re-weld. Both end styles use the same centre section, so one spare-parts kit serves the whole line.

Applications

  • Breweries, wineries and distilleries: fermenter outlets, racking arms, sample points and bright-tank transfer lines, where the Tri-Clamp ends let the valve come out for cleaning between batches.
  • Food processing with viscous or crystallising product: syrups, sauces, chocolate and concentrates on batch lines that change product often — the full-port bore and cavity filled seat leave less room for product to hide between runs.
  • Access points versus main runs: Tri-Clamp (V-3N) at points that are opened, inspected or sampled; extended butt weld (V-3N-L3) on permanent runs that stay in the line and are cleaned in place.

Need automated on/off? See the sanitary pneumatic ball valve. Need to divert flow between two lines? See the sanitary 3 way ball valve. All sanitary models are listed under sanitary ball valves (Tri-Clamp).

FAQ

What is a tri clamp ball valve?

A ball valve with Tri-Clamp (clamp ferrule) ends for sanitary tube lines: 316 stainless steel, a smooth full-port bore matched to the tube, and no threads where product could lodge. The ferrules join with a clamp and gasket, so the valve comes out of the line without tools. Tri clover ball valve and hygienic ball valve are other names for the same style.

Tri-Clamp or butt weld — which ends should I choose?

Tri-Clamp if the line is taken apart and cleaned often: the clamp opens without tools. Extended butt weld (V-3N-L3) if the valve lives in a permanently welded run — the long ends keep welding heat away from the PTFE seats.

What does the cavity filled (encapsulated) seat do?

The PTFE seat wraps around the ball and fills the body cavity where product could otherwise collect. The fully encapsulated seat fills the most cavity and is rated −20 to +80 °C; the semi encapsulated seat is rated −20 to +180 °C. Both are available on V-3N and V-3N-L3 — tell us which your process needs.

What is the temperature rating?

It depends on the seat: −20 to +180 °C with the semi encapsulated PTFE seat, −20 to +80 °C with the fully encapsulated seat. Pressure rating is 1000 WOG for both.

Can the valve be taken apart for cleaning?

Yes. The three-piece body unbolts in place, so you can inspect the bore, clean the internals or replace the seats without cutting the valve out of the line.

Is 304 stainless available?

316 (CF8M) is the stock material. 304 (CF8) is made on request — state it on the enquiry.

Can I mix Tri-Clamp and butt-weld ends on one order?

Yes. Both are available across the 1/2″–4″ range; state the size and connection for each line item.

What decides the price of a tri clamp ball valve?

Size, end style (clamp or extended weld), seat type (fully or semi encapsulated), material (316 stock or 304 on request) and quantity. Send line sizes and end style and we quote each item.

What is the minimum order?

No minimum order quantity — we accept orders of any size, including small trial orders. For small orders, freight is arranged and paid by the buyer.
