What Is a Vacuum Ball Valve? Working Principle, Advantages and Selection Tips
A vacuum ball valve is a quarter-turn ball valve built to hold a seal when the pressure inside the line is far below atmospheric. One 90° turn isolates a pump, a foreline or a gauge, and in the open position the full bore leaves the gas path almost untouched. It is a sound choice for rough and medium vacuum, and the wrong choice for a baked ultra-high vacuum chamber. This guide explains how a vacuum ball valve works, which vacuum levels it can realistically handle, where it does better than a gate or bellows valve and where it does not, and what to write on a request for quotation (RFQ)
