Al girar el volante se eleva o se baja una compuerta de cu\u00f1a maciza; cuando est\u00e1 totalmente abierta, la compuerta deja libre el paso por completo, por lo que el caudal no se ve restringido y la ca\u00edda de presi\u00f3n es pr\u00e1cticamente nula.<\/p>\n<p>Una v\u00e1lvula de compuerta es la opci\u00f3n adecuada cuando la v\u00e1lvula permanece totalmente abierta o cerrada durante largos periodos de tiempo y es importante que el paso sea libre y completo; a diferencia de una v\u00e1lvula de bola, el volante multigiro se cierra lentamente, lo que evita el golpe de ariete que puede provocar un cuarto de vuelta r\u00e1pido.
